Watching a good movie with a friend during the holidays is one my favorite Christmas pastimes. Last night my friend Dawn and I went to see the movie “Australia“, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman at the Regal Theatre in Bellevue.
On the surface “Australia” is a romantic adventure set in northern Australia during World War II, featuring cattle drives and Japanese air raids. However, the depth of the movie lies in the story within the story. The heart of the film explores the suffering the Aborigine people endured during what is now known as “the years of the lost generations”.
I encourage anyone who is interested in understanding global racial issues, or enjoys historic fiction, or appreciates lovely panoramic scenery and the sound of indigenous music, to see this movie.
