Chick # 901, Class of 2009, Hatched May 3rd
Operation Migration has played a leading role in the reintroduction of endangered Whooping cranes into eastern North America since 2001. In the 1940s the species was reduced to just 15 birds.

As of today there are 10 surviving chicks in the class of 2009. According to Liz Condie of Operation Migration one of the “chicks will be held back for the captive population, leaving as of the moment, 9 chicks for the Ultralight-led program“.
