Today the local preservation group, Historic Nashville Inc, announced the Nashville Nine, an annual list of the most endangered historic properties in Nashville and Davidson County. The list features nine historic properties that are threatened by demolition, neglect, or development. Included on this year’s list is the Downtown Post Office, located inside the historic Arcade shopping mall in downtown Nashville.
Known for its Art Deco architecture and popular due to its convenient location, the Arcade’s post office has operated continuously since 1903. This historic post office is one of 413 retail and branch locations slated for closure by the United States Postal Service and Historic Nashville Inc fears that its closure would threaten the viability of the entire Arcade , a space which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
